Some Great Examples of Color Harmony
The color wheel, which was introduced to us in school during the elementary days, surprisingly became one of the most important tools that can be used to create magnificent colorful arts. The wheel starts from the three basic colors that then lead to the introduction of secondary colors and so on. The color combinations of either two or more different colors are called the color harmony.
You can create color harmonies by combining any color you like, but here are some great examples of color harmonies that will surely turn your work of art into a very presentable, creative, and amusing one.
- Split Complementary or Compound Harmony
This harmony can be produced by combining two colors of any type mixed with another color that is found opposite to them. Because an opposite color is mixed, the contrast here is found to be very strong visually. People who are just in the process of studying color harmony can find this one very creative and easy to do.
- Tetradic Color Harmony
Tetradic comes from the word Tetrad which means a group or set of four.
This color harmony consists of two sets of complimentary colors, which means that there are four colors involved. When you look at the color wheel, this color harmony forms a rectangular shape. Tetradic color harmony allows you to form many color combinations. You just need to pay attention to how the intensity of color affects your harmony.
- Square Color Harmony
This color harmony is the one you can get if you draw a perfect square on the color wheel. The colors set on each corner are the ones you need to pick up and combine. The colors you can get are definitely not found next to each other. They are all two color apart. Like the tetradic harmony, keeping an eye on the color intensity is also very important.
- Monochromatic Color Scheme
Monochromatic comes from the word Monochrome and means having or appearing to have only one color.
This harmony makes use of colors with different shades, tints, and tones of a single color. However, it is also possible to add a little of white, black, or gray. This is one of the easiest ways of color harmony and is also very effective in giving a wonderful effect.
- Complimentary Color Scheme
Combining two colors that are found opposite to each other is what you call the complimentary color harmony. Commonly, the subjects of this color harmony are the primary colors.
- Triadic Color Harmony
Using colors that are found not next, but equally spaced to each other is called the triadic color harmony. This is commonly found in the rooms of the people who want to see visual contrast and balance in color.
From a simple color wheel with three primary colors, you can create hundreds of colors. You can experiment on how to combine them all and build a new color harmony which is good to see, or you may use the proven great color harmonies. For whatever you choose, you will surely come out with the best color scheme that fits perfectly to where and to what it should be applied.
